Privacy Policy

Grocy (“the app”) is a grocery list and menu-planning app. This page explains what data the app and its web companion collect, why, and how you can remove it. Grocy does not require an account, does not show ads, and does not use any third-party tracking or analytics SDKs.

What we collect

  • Device identifier. On first launch, the app generates a random, anonymous identifier stored in your device’s Keychain. It is not tied to your name, email, or Apple ID — it’s the only way we recognize “you” on our servers.
  • Shopping lists and dishes. The items, quantities, dishes, and recipes you create are stored on our servers, associated only with your device identifier, so they can sync across sessions and power sharing (below).
  • Share links. If you create a share link, anyone with that link can view and edit the associated shopping list through this website, without installing the app or creating an account. Only the shopping list is exposed this way — your dishes and recipes stay private.

What we don’t collect

  • Product photos you attach to items are stored only on your device and are never uploaded to our servers.
  • No name, email, phone number, or precise location.
  • No advertising or cross-app tracking identifiers.
  • No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs from third parties.

How data is used

Data is used solely to provide the app’s core functionality: syncing your lists across app launches and enabling the optional sharing feature described above. We do not sell or rent your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Data deletion

You can permanently delete your data at any time from Settings → Delete My Data in the app. This immediately removes your shopping lists, dishes, recipes, and share links from our servers and clears everything stored on your device.

Simply deleting the app does not delete server-side data — iOS gives us no way to detect an uninstall, so we can’t trigger this automatically. Use the in-app button first, or contact us using the details below and we’ll remove it for you.
